Internships make a difference
Internships create new possibilities for all of us.
From your town, your school or your local networking group, offering internships today can
make a difference in many lives.
Our millenials are experiencing difficulties “finding a job” today. This seems hard for me to understand, when so many business owners and our local communities are in need of the skills that our young people naturally possess today.
I have sat in my local networking organizations, where business owners were expressing their concerns about how to use the networking possibilities of the internet to promote their business or group. Our schools are full of eager young individuals that are using their computers and phones everyday of their lives to communicate with others. The “reach” these young people have to communicate with possible customers, clients, job applicants. amd others is way beyond anything that most of us from previous generations can even understand. Today, it is possible to grow our business to be global business from anywhere on this planet.
All we need to build our business is a way to tap into these new opportunities. Our young people are naturals. We can source our young people through school internship programs, part-time employment, or offering short-term gigs to our local groups of younger citizens. Not only is the employer learning new methods of contacting prospects and customers, but our youth are learning more about how business operates, and gain new skills for their resumes in the future. They also are gaining great “references” for their resumes, and contacts they may use for their next move forward in their career choice.
Not all internships should focus on computer ability. Students and mentoring individuals or organizations, may need other help with their business or services. The experience functioning in a business or group environment is a learning experience and teaches young people to adapt to new situations.
I have used this video before, but it shows how the interaction with others helps the young and the oldler individuals move forward in their lives. Working together is a way for students and those they work with to have a better understanding of each other. This video always makes me smile.
I also wanted to share an internship program that Vail School District has implemented successfully.
Our world is changing, our students are valuable to our world in many ways, and our older generations have new experiences waiting for our youth to teach us.
How can your community incorporate the value of our youth into programs that will help all of us? It is something for us to consider.
Internships make a difference for many, by filling a need that the businesses have and the needs that millenials have for their future in business.
Making a difference today by looking at new possibilities. What a great way to change our world.
